Acronyms
Every People has its own special words and expression. And one of words in the English language is the acronym. An acronym is a word that is formed from the first letters of several other words. For example, OPEC is an acronym for the Organiztion of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
An initialism is like an acronym. But it does not sound like a real word itself. Instead, it just states the first letters of other words. USA is an intialism for the United States of America. UN is an initialism for the United Nations.
Acronyms and intialisms are like language brothers. And both can be an easy way to shorten a title or name that has many words. It is easier to say VOA than to say th Voice of America. But the same acronmy or intialism may represent different organizations, groups of names.
For example, the Voice of America is not the only organization with the intialism "VOA." The Volkswagen of America atutomobile company uses the same theree letters. So does the Volunteers of America organization that helps poor people.
This has been growing problem for English speakers. Political leaders, scientists and others have invented thousands of acronyms to describe everything from tax legislation to space vehicles. The great American writer H.L. Mencken observed correctly that many American feel a strong desire to reduce complete names or ideas to the shortest possible form.
Most of the world thinks that the acronym NATO only means the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. However, the same accronym also can mean the "National Association of Theater Owners in the United States.
You cannot be sure that a member of the PLO belongs to the Palestine Liberation Organiztion. He may really be a member of the Philippine Labor Organization. Or he may be a scientist helping to launch a rocket in the Pacific Ocean as part of the Pacific Launch Operations of the American space program.
Do not feel bad if you find it difficult to follow so many acronyms and initialisms. You are not alone. Back in 1960, a group of language experts made a list of all the acronyms they could find in the English language. Their list contained about twelve thousand. These days, however the number of acronyms on the list has increased more than ten times. There are now more than one hundred thousand different accronyms.

လူတိုင်းမှာ ကိုယ်ပိုင် အထူးစကားလုံးတွေနဲ့ ထုတ်ဖော်ပြောဆိုမှုတွေ ရှိကြပါတယ်။ အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာစကားမှာပါတဲ့ စကားလုံးတွေထဲက တစ်ခုကတော့ အတိုကောက် ဖြစ်ပါသည်။ အတိုကောက်ဆိုသည်မှာ အခြားစကားလုံးများစွာ၏ ပထမစာလုံးများမှ ဖြစ်ပေါ်လာသော စကားလုံးဖြစ်သည်။ ဥပမာအားဖြင့်၊ OPEC သည် ရေနံတင်ပို့သည့်နိုင်ငံများအဖွဲ့၏ အတိုကောက်ဖြစ်သည်။
ကနဦးသဘောတရားသည် အတိုကောက်နှင့်တူသည်။ ဒါပေမယ့် တကယ့်စကားလုံးက သူ့ဘာသာသူ အသံမထွက်ပါဘူး။ ယင်းအစား အခြားစကားလုံးများ၏ ပထမစာလုံးများကိုသာ ဖော်ပြသည်။ USA သည် United States of America အတွက် initialism ဖြစ်သည်။ UN သည် ကုလသမဂ္ဂအတွက် ကနဦးဝါဒဖြစ်သည်။
အတိုကောက်နှင့် အတိုကောက်များသည် ဘာသာစကားညီအစ်ကိုများကဲ့သို့ပင်။ နှစ်ခုလုံးသည် စကားလုံးများစွာပါသော ခေါင်းစဉ် သို့မဟုတ် အမည်ကို အတိုကောက်ပြုလုပ်ရန် လွယ်ကူသောနည်းလမ်းတစ်ခုဖြစ်သည်။ ဗွီအိုအေကို ပြောရတာထက် Voice of America လို့ပြောရတာ ပိုလွယ်တယ်။ သို့သော် တူညီသော အတိုကောက် သို့မဟုတ် ပင်ကိုယ်ဝါဒသည် မတူညီသော အဖွဲ့အစည်းများ၊ အမည်အုပ်စုများကို ကိုယ်စားပြုနိုင်သည်။

ဤသည်မှာ အင်္ဂလိပ်စကားပြောသူများအတွက် ပြဿနာကြီးထွားလာသည်။ နိုင်ငံရေးခေါင်းဆောင်များ၊ သိပ္ပံပညာရှင်များနှင့် အခြားသူများသည် အခွန်ဥပဒေပြဋ္ဌာန်းချက်မှ အာကာသယာဉ်များအထိ အရာအားလုံးကို ဖော်ပြရန်အတွက် ထောင်နှင့်ချီသော အတိုကောက်များကို တီထွင်ခဲ့ကြသည်။ အမေရိကန်စာရေးဆရာကြီး H.L. နေတိုး၏အတိုကောက်သည် မြောက်အတ္တလန္တိတ်စာချုပ်အဖွဲ့ကိုသာ ဆိုလိုသည်ဟု ကမ္ဘာ့အများစုက ယူဆကြသည်။ သို့သော်လည်း တူညီသောအတိုကောက်သည် "အမေရိကန်ပြည်ထောင်စုရှိ ပြဇာတ်ရုံပိုင်ရှင်များအဖွဲ့ National Association of Theater Owners" ကို ရည်ညွှန်းနိုင်သည်။
PLO ၏အဖွဲ့ဝင်တစ်ဦးသည် ပါလက်စတိုင်းလွတ်မြောက်ရေးအဖွဲ့အစည်းမှဖြစ်ကြောင်း သင်မသေချာနိုင်ပါ။ သူသည် ဖိလစ်ပိုင် အလုပ်သမားအဖွဲ့အစည်း၏ အဖွဲ့ဝင်တစ်ဦးဖြစ်နိုင်သည်။ သို့မဟုတ် အမေရိကန် အာကာသ အစီအစဉ်၏ ပစိဖိတ် လွှတ်တင်ရေး စစ်ဆင်ရေး၏ တစ်စိတ်တစ်ပိုင်းအနေဖြင့် ပစိဖိတ်သမုဒ္ဒရာအတွင်း ဒုံးပျံကို လွှတ်တင်ရန် ကူညီပေးနေသည့် သိပ္ပံပညာရှင်တစ်ဦးလည်း ဖြစ်နိုင်ပါသည်။
အတိုကောက်နှင့် အစပြုခြင်းများစွာကို လိုက်နာရန် ခက်ခဲပါက စိတ်မဆိုးပါနှင့်။ မင်းတစ်ယောက်တည်းမဟုတ်ဘူး။ 1960 တွင်၊ ဘာသာစကားကျွမ်းကျင်သူအဖွဲ့တစ်ဖွဲ့သည် အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာစကားဖြင့် ရှာဖွေနိုင်သော အတိုကောက်များအားလုံးကို စာရင်းပြုစုခဲ့သည်။ သူတို့စာရင်းမှာ တစ်သောင်းနှစ်ထောင်လောက်ရှိတယ်။ သို့သော် ယနေ့ခေတ် စာရင်းတွင် အတိုကောက် အရေအတွက်သည် ဆယ်ဆကျော် တိုးလာသည်။ ယခုအခါတွင် မတူညီသော အတိုကောက်ပေါင်း တစ်သိန်းကျော်ရှိသည်။
